Ratings Don't Mean Everything.
However, with this being said, to an extent they do mean some things to different people. To the BTS crew of dramas, to be rewarded with great ratings means a drive to work harder. Perhaps, a certain pride that they can take part in something everyone is talking about. To the station, it means earning money. Then what does it mean to the actual actors taking part in the series? Well, I recently came across an article while roaming "The Great Seer" thread at soompi and Ji Sung puts it well in the following: "My goal is to be free from the viewer ratings...I will not worry about the viewer ratings but plunging into the drama is my goal".
So why this rant on ratings all of a sudden? Well honestly, I have to say they do affect my feelings some-what. Recently with all the saeguk's that have been coming out, I was excited, exhilarated overwhelmed because I just LOVE them. However, I couldn't help feeling disappointed with all the articles coming about concerning ratings and how these dramas have 'disappointed.' I can accept the fact that different viewers have different tastes (and perhaps with the influx of saeguks on to the screen, viewers might've gotten a bit tired and have switched over to the modern series), however I can't help but feel saddened by news articles constantly using 'ratings' to judge a drama as a 'disappointment' or what-not.
So I end this today with: Whether you're a lover of rom-com, melodrama, medical, idol, saeguks, don't let ratings affect your mood. You might like like the taste of caviar, but others might just like the taste of plain ol' peanut butter.
