Big OST//Davichi: Because It's You
What am I watching right now? It's a combination of recent and old! I think one of the bad 'flaws' of my drama-watching is that I'm impatient and tend to give up easily. I can watch a drama until the 2nd to last episode...and stop right there. I really can't give an explanation to my sporadic and spontaneous behaviour.
With 'real-time' dramas airing, I tend to give up on them easier because it gets easy to lose interest on the way (because of that waiting period). I think I should try to wait for a drama to be completed before I delve into it, but...that would never happen.
So to the dramas I've been sticking to, given up (perhaps not entirely) and have started:
On-Air Now:
1. Big
I wasn't planning on watching it in the beginning after reading the story premise, but I did anyway (perhaps out of boredom). With that being said, I loved the first 5-6 episodes. They were funny, light, twisty and most of all addicting. However, I lost steam on the way last week when episode 7 and 8 were broadcasted. Suddenly the story didn't appeal anymore, storylines were becoming sluggish and so I pressed the 'stop' button. I do intend to follow the story by reading recaps, and perhaps my interest will peak enough to let me continue, but maybe when all the episodes are out.
2. Ghost
I like mystery and thriller to begin with, so this story immediately captured my attention. Theres an intricate plot, the use of computers and digital gadgets have all been incorporated appropriately and at times will freak me out (like the phantom music suddenly appearing on your screen, first few episodes). The cast....well not so much but I can live with it as long as the plot's good. I still have not lost fuel on this ship so I would say this show's a keeper for now.
3. Standby (sitcom)
Korean sitcom's are a new thing to me and I think I'm starting to like them. My first taste of a sitcom was "High-Kick 3: Revenge of the Short-Legged" and Standby followed after so I thought "might as well give it a try." When I decided to watch Standby it was not for any particular actor or actress. Why is it important I state this? Well I've been on forums (english and chinese) where people only started watching Standby for a particular person and when their actor/actress didn't get enough screen time or didn't appear they would whine and complain and it just bothered the heck out of me. Some people would go to the extremes to diss other actors or be like "oh, this show sucks now because so and so has not appeared" Yeah...some of that really ticked me off, but I have taken less notice to these comments and have focused on actually discussing the show.
Oops, at my rant. Anyway, I'm still following this sitcom religiously. However, the complains are mounting about how the writers don't know what they want, and it is true. Besides the older couple who have married, the younger generation love-lines are a complete mess! It's a string of one-sided love, then fighting for affection, and recently a new female character to liven up the mess because the writers just want to make viewers more confused. On top of all that though, the show is simple and easy to get and does have it's laughs so this one is also a keeper. (Not to mention, all the characters are lovable to some degree)
Planning to Watch:
1. Bridal Mask (Gaksital)
I've heard rave reviews about this show! I've actually had my eye on it before it aired and watched some trailers and felt it could totally be my show. However, I didn't start it right away because I knew the waiting process for these action-packed thriller dramas is agonizing. I might start on it soon if I don't have anything else to watch since 10 episodes are out already, but perhaps waiting a bit more won't hurt.
2. I Need Romance 2
I haven't watched the first season, and I'm not a 'huge' romance fan but I wanted to watch this because of lead actress Jung Yu-mi. I have not watched any of her shows prior to this but I've been captivated by her innocent and natural face and wanted to give it a try. I also might wait a bit longer as more episodes are released to start it.
Given up:
1. Gentleman's Dignity
This was a drama I could care less about even though it boasted a star-studded cast, but when they were releasing stills, one of them caught my eye and I knew I had to watch it.
The still had "magical beautiful encounter" screaming out of it and was primarly the reason I started watching the show. The other being Kim Ha Neul after her approving performance on her movie "Blind". But...I stopped after 4....5 episodes....maybe less? Anyway, I pretty soon found it was not my taste. I felt that there was no concrete storyline, some compelling factor that could make me want to watch. I mean, at least Secret Garden had the whole 'body-switch' element to it. I know this show was portraying the lives of 40 year olds, and that's probably another reason I stopped watching. Let's face it...I'm shallow. I will watch a show if they have good-looking people in it and I have stopped watching shows because there was someone I couldn't stand watching (mostly for their acting or ...looks, but that is rare!) So, forty-year olds....and not a bunch of suave, looking F4 as they put it. No one in that group... no one was attractive. I don't know how people find Jang Don Gun attractive but his sunken tired face was not appealing! And the other three... yeah. Anyway aside from appearances, I also felt Kim Ha Neul's character was a bit 'over-exaggerated'. Perhaps for the comedy effect, but meh, this show was totally not my taste to begin with and I was right after testing it out. However it has been receiving 20% ratings recently so I guess it can't be all that bad?
2. Dr. Jin
Oh, this show. How they have completely ruined it from the true, original Japanese version. Utterly, utterly disappointing. I had watched the Japanese version, season one and two, twice! The cinemotography, the storyline, the acting, the actors themselves all recieved huge applause and they deserved it! So when the 'Korean' version was coming out the first thing I thought was, "how will they compare/compete with such a great production?" And of course...they did not. They couldn't. The casting was off first of all. Song Seung Hoon, Park Min Young ...I had watched several of their shows before, but they never had that 'wow' factor to them. They were mediocre, just 'meh'. And you put them in charge of this? It would never work out... And another thing that turned me off was the idol actor. Gosh, I can't even remember his name, his acting was as stiff as a board. I could ramble off about how they sucked compared to the Japanese version, but I'd like to make it short and less offensive. I watched the first episode and nearly started the second episode...but opted out of it. Let's just say, if you want to watch the true version, watch the Japanese version and prepare to have your mind blown away.
Drama Schedule Part II coming up next...
